Why should a free newspaper be boring and full of adverts?

The format and outlook of this newspaper was quite simple from the very beginning.

It was to print features and have sections to the newspaper that were truly Asian Image. Over the years it became quite flattering when other Asian newspapers tried to emulate the Asian Image style.

The idea's kept Asian Image abreast of any of it's competitors and it is the ideas that make the newspaper what it is.

Special features were a common theme in Asian Image and those special features were what kept readers interested.

If you are only printing once a month you have to make a real effort to ensure you keep readers interested. And you have to tackle issues that are affecting all communities.

It was very easy to continually feature the same old faces and make them into mini-celebrities.

But in Asian Image we tried our utmost to feature the unsung heroes within the Asian community.

There has been a shift in the focus at times to tackle more and more pressing issues but the quality of writers and commentators remains very important to Asian Image.

In our long-list of contributers we found there were writers who shared the Asian Image style and humour. From Anila Baig (now with the Sun) to Sarvat Jabeen Khan (now with the BBC) Asian Image helped raise the bar for the quality of articles printed in free newspapers.
