BRADFORD City officials are considering whether any further action is required after reports of more offensive chanting aimed at the club's fans during the FA Cup tie at Bury.

Some supporters took to social media after Saturday's game to say that fans had been subjected to IS-related taunts, mirroring a similar incident at Sheffield United last month.

Greater Manchester Police said no official complaint had been made during or after the game, but Bradford City said it was waiting to hear from police and Bury before deciding its next move.

One fan, who was at the game at Gigg Lane, told the Telegraph & Argus that a small section of Bury supporters had echoed the "You're just a town full of ISIS" chants which were also heard during the match at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane ground on December 28.

As a result of that incident, the Sheffield club handed banning orders to a number of fans, with details of the investigation also passed to the Football Association and South Yorkshire Police.

The Bantams fan, who did not want to be named, said the chants had been made during the first half of Saturday's game, being repeated a couple of times by some Bury fans before dying down.

The same fan also described a clash between away supporters and stewards patrolling the stand behind one of the goals, with reports on social media later claiming two stewards had been arrested as a result of the incident.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said it had not received any official complaints in relation to offensive chanting during the game, but added that as a force it would be duty-bound to investigate such a complaint.

The spokesman said there were no reports of any stewards being arrested, adding that one fan had been detained in relation to public order offences, with others ejected from the ground due to disorder, but not arrested.

A spokesman for Bradford City said: "We cannot comment on the situation at the moment as we are waiting for further details from Bury and Greater Manchester Police.

"The chants were reported and alleged on social media, and we are contacting the relevant authorities to establish what happened to decide whether any further action needs to be taken."

Bury Football Club did not respond to a request for a comment from the T&A yesterday.

Mike Thompson, chairman of the Bradford City Supporters Trust, was at the game on Saturday but said he had not been aware of any IS-related chanting taking place.

"I didn't hear any chanting of that sort, so if it occurred, it must have been at the other end of the ground," said Mr Thompson.

"There was banter with the opposition fans where we were, but nothing more than usual.

"If people have reported hearing it, then it is regrettable that some fans feel this is something they can do.

"It is pathetic in many ways.

"It is quite clearly meant to be insulting, and whether you think it is racist depends on how you interpret the term that is used.

"Whatever the interpretation, their actions are to be condemned.

"The swift action taken by Sheffield United in handing out banning orders is to be commended, as this is not a trend at away games that we would want to see continue."
