A YOUNG Bolton boxer has been impressing since joining the professional ranks six months ago.

Osman Aslam, of Halliwell, has won both of his fights to date – the most recent a notable points victory against experienced South Yorkshireman Anwar Alfadli in Preston 10 days ago.

The 21-year-old super bantamweight, whose idols are Manny Pacquiao and Muhammad Ali, is now eyeing a next outing in mid-August as he looks to progress quickly.

Aslam started boxing 10 years ago, training at the Bolton Lads and Girls Club where Amir Khan started out in the 1990s.

He progressed through the amateur ranks and after around 65 bouts, he won an ABA tournament in 2009.

Aslam turned professional last December and won his first fight at the Bolton Whites hotel – also on points after four rounds against Doncaster's Craig Derbyshire.

He currently trains with Oliver Harrison in Manchester, alongside Amir's brother Haroon Khan, and also visits the Gloves Community Centre twice a week.

And his assistant manager Ibrahim Aslam hopes he can be the next big boxing talent to represent Bolton.

He told The Bolton News: "Osman is definitely a boxer to watch out for with lighting hand speed and great power.

"I think everyone should get behind this young talent.

"We want the whole of Bolton to be aware of this new prospect who will carry on making the town proud."
