There was heartbreak for the Rochdale sides after they were beaten in two finals in a matter of weeks.

First up, Rochdale Galaxy of the Rochdale Alliance League side competed in the re-arranged Alletson & Mitchell Memorial Trophy Final at the Mayfield Sports Centre in Castleton. The original game against Fothergill and Whittles seconds being postponed due to heavy rain.

Whilst starting like a team meaning business they soon found themselves two down in a matter of minutes. They were three down within twenty minutes and although they managed to claw one back late on through a Nabeel Sarwar penalty the game finished 4-1 to Fothergill.

Despite the result it was a good learning curve for the side that has done well with what is still a young team.

Weeks later Rochdale Asia took on premier division runners-up Walsden C&FC in the President’s Cup final.

But it was a familiar story for Asia as they conceded early goals to put their opposition in pole position. As the game wore on Rochdale did try to make a game of it but they were 4-0 down on 58 minutes.

They pressed for a consolation and got one back but then conceded another to give Walsden a deserved victory.

Both side did well to reach the final. Rochdale have not had a great season and finished second from bottom in the Premier division. Sabar Ansari’s Rochdale Galaxy finished mid-table in the first division.

Sabar said: “We didn’t start too well and we were up against a strong side.

“Nonetheless, it was a great achievement to get to the final as we were only established two years ago.

“Big thanks also to our sponsors Rochdale’s Deli-Licious.

“If anyone wants to play next year you are welcome to call me on 07966 166587.”
