The Fishwick Rangers Youth Development Scheme team picked up two honours at this year's Preston Sports Awards.

They were presented with the Community Organisation of the Year (sponsored by Holiday Inn Preston).

And Hansa Ahmed was presented with the Volunteer of the Year (sponsored by FWP Partnership Architecture). The tenth annual Walker Smith Way Preston Sports Awards 2015 took place at the Preston Guild Hall. It began with a celebration of the achievements of Preston’s clubs, volunteers and athletes over the last ten years.

Fayyaz Ahmed from the FYDS said: "It is wonderful to be recognised in this way. I would like to thank all the volunteers and those selfless individuals who put their time in to make their city a better place to live for all us."

The event was opened by the Mayor of Preston, Councillor Nicholas Pomfret, hosted by TV personality, Paul Crone, with guest speaker Gail Emms MBE, Former World Champion and Silver medallist at Athens Olympic Games, giving an inspirational speech.

The attendees at the ceremony also saw a spectacular performance from the City of Preston Gymnastics Club.

The finale of the evening saw Pete Hancock recognised for his commitment and tireless work for Preston Harriers.

Mayor of Preston, Councillor Nick Pomfret, said after the event: “Once again, Preston has pulled out all the stops with a brilliant night and some inspirational stories.

“Thanks to all the sponsors and the people working behind the scenes to make sure a great night is had by all.

“I was honoured and humbled to start the ceremony in my role as Mayor of this fantastic city.”
