Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic believes the sky's the limit for rising teenage star Munir El-Haddadi, with the Catalan giants seemingly having unearthed another gem from their production line.

Munir has enjoyed an unforgettable month with the first team, scoring braces in the pre-season 6-0 friendly wins over HJK Helsinki and Leon and then notching a brilliant goal on his competitive debut against Elche last Sunday.

Such has been the impact of the 18-year-old forward, he was named in Luis Enrique's starting line-up for that match ahead of the likes of Pedro Rodriguez and Xavi, and Rakitic feels the Spain Under-19 international can go all the way in the game.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's trip to Villarreal, summer signing Rakitic said: "There's nothing he can't achieve if he carries on working as he has done until now.

"He's not surprised me because I see him day by day and from the first day I saw he had a lot of quality. As well as that, he works very hard and has his head in the right place. He's very young and he's going to give us a lot of joy."

Barca's 3-0 win over Elche left them top of the standings after the first round, but their opponents this weekend Villarreal also got off to a winning start with a 2-0 derby victory at Levante.

Marcelino Garcia Toral's men then followed that up with a 4-0 mauling of Astana on Thursday to progress through to the Europa League group stages, and Rakitic knows it will not be easy at El Madrigal.

"It'll be difficult because Marcelino makes his teams work very hard," said the Croatia international. "But we just have to focus on ourselves. We're very positive about the trip."

Real Madrid also started their campaign with a victory, although they were far from impressive in seeing off minnows Cordoba 2-0 at the Bernabeu and will need to step up a gear when they go to wounded Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Sociedad have suffered a nightmare start to the campaign, losing to Primera Division debutants Eibar in their opening La Liga fixture before being knocked out of the Europa League by Krasnodar on Thursday.

The good news for Sociedad is they will not have to face Angel di Maria or Xabi Alonso, both of whom were sold by Madrid this week, but the pressure will still be on coach Jagoba Arrasate and his side.

The second round of the season begins on Friday night with Malaga going to Valencia looking for their first-ever win at the Mestalla since being reformed in the mid-1990s, while Getafe host Almeria.

On Saturday, Celta Vigo travel to promoted Cordoba, Espanyol host Europa League champions Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao - buoyed by reaching the Champions League group stages in midweek - welcome Levante to San Mames.

Defending champions Atletico Madrid are also in action on Saturday, taking on newcomers Eibar at the Vicente Calderon where coach Diego Simeone will continue his eight-match ban for his sending-off in the Supercopa win over Real Madrid.

The other two matches are on Sunday, when Deportivo La Coruna take on Rayo Vallecano and Elche meet Granada.
