A PR consultant with experience gained at the largest PR group in the country and two of UK’s biggest corporate healthcare providers, has set up her own consultancy - HK Communications.

The consultancy provides PR services, including copywriting, social media support as well as traditional media relations to a variety of clients from SMEs to larger corporates.

Halima Khatun is uniquely placed to provide support to a range of organisations, as she has held senior PR roles in the public, private and third sector, including Bell Pottinger North in Macclesfield, BMI Healthcare in Cheadle and Care UK in Colchester.

Halima also headed up the marketing and communications function at international NGO Muslim Aid.

She said, “While many PRs may build their experience within one sector, I’ve been lucky enough to work with some fantastic people and brands from across the spectrum.

"At Bell Pottinger North – part of the Chime Communications, the largest PR group in the country - I managed some great NHS accounts which involved engaging the public to get to the root cause of some of the core health issues affecting our communities.

“I then went in-house to the private sector, working on communications on a national scale, and adding a commercial, business edge to any PR activity.

"And my most recent role was at an international charity, which had a real focus on donor engagement.  However all these roles had the same purpose, to help raise the profile of the organisation through the voice of the end-user or customer.  After all, they are any company’s best advocate.”

Halima also hopes that through HK Communications, smaller firms can become aware of the benefits of positive PR.

She added, “While the PR industry in the UK is estimated to be worth over £9bn, a lot of start-ups and SME’s still don’t see the value of PR, as they think it’s an expensive luxury that is out of their reach.

"I hope to be able to show businesses of all sizes that PR is not just the reserve of the big brands with big budgets, but a vital, affordable marketing tool for everyone.”
