Police investigating the rape and attempted murder of a woman have released a new image of her attacker.

The 18-year-old victim was waiting at a bus stop in Leeds when she was dragged into a garden and viciously assaulted by the man who repeatedly struck her over the head with a rock.

She received serious head injuries and a broken hip during the attack in March.

The new e-fit image was created by combining the original produced by the victim with an additional computer portrait based on the description of another woman the attacker stalked.

Detective Superintendent Nick Wallen of West Yorkshire Police said: "We believe this new image is the most realistic likeness we have yet had of the man we are still working very hard to identify.

"It has been created from the victim's description of him and from the recollection of one of the women he stalked in the period leading up to the attack.

"I would ask people to study it very closely alongside the other elements of description that we have already released and think hard about whether they know who it is."

The attack took place near a bus stop in Beeston Road, near the junction with Tempest Road, Leeds, at about 10.50pm on March 6.

Officers had already released chilling CCTV footage in which the victim can be seen struggling with her attacker before being left for dead.

Crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £5,000 for any information passed directly to them that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
