BRADFORD pop star Zayn Malik (pictured) was today named as the joint second richest young musician with his former bandmates.

The singer and his four former One Direction bandmates have seen their individual wealth rise by £11 million in the last year to £25m each.

This has seen them go from fourth place last year to second spot in the 2015 Sunday Times Rich List.

They finished ahead of some of music's biggest names including Ed Sheeran, who was seventh, Ellie Goulding, eighth, and Sam Smith, joint 14th.

Adele topped the young musicians list, of artists from the UK and Ireland who are aged 30 or under, with a wealth of £50m, an increase of £5m.

Meanwhile, Sir Paul McCartney topped the top 40 music millionaires in Britain and Ireland with a £730m fortune.

Zayn flew home from the boyband's world tour with "stress" before suddenly quitting the group last month, saying that he wants to be a "normal 22-year-old".

The 22-year-old, who grew up in East Bowling, was given the Outstanding Contribution to Music award at the fifth annual Asian Awards last weekend.

The prize was his first independent award.
